State Sen. Jamaal Bailey donated two dozen school uniforms to the Edward Williams Elementary School in Mount Vernon this week to support students in need of new clothes.
The new uniforms are the second time Bailey has assisted the school community since September, following his “Back to School” drive, when he doled out more than 100 backpacks filled to the brim with school supplies for students.
“To be able to make a difference in the lives of the students who will wear these uniforms is gratifying,” Bailey said. “This is one less thing parents will have to focus on, and instead, they can continue to focus on supporting their children’s academic work and the instruction given to them.”
“Sen. Bailey’s donations assist many of our Mount Vernon families who can really use that help,” Schools Superintendent Kenneth Hamilton added. “In turn, this helps our students feel even better about their classroom work and experiences. It’s a win-win for everyone, and we are extremely grateful to Senator Bailey.”
In a statement, Edward Williams Principal Crystal Waterman said that “this is a positive example for others to see. It reaffirms that providing the possible education to our students involves many people and extends beyond the school building.”
